The tally of positive tests has surged by 434 in the 24 hours till 0800 hrs on Tuesday to 3,382, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services.

Two more patients recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the number of recoveries to 87, said Nasima Sultana, additional director general of DGHS, during its regular briefing on Tuesday.

The authorities collected 3,128 samples and tested 2,974, up 7 per cent from the day before, according to the health directorate.

Among the fatalities, five were men and four were women: all were aged between 40 and 69.

Another 89 people were taken into isolation in the 24 hours, pushing the total to 765, said Sultana. As of now, 579 people have been discharged from isolation.

As many as 4,168 people were quarantined during that period, with another 1,424 entering institutional quarantine. A total of 153,794 people have been quarantined so far with 77,004 being discharged.

Those who have completed the quarantine process can lead a normal life. But they need to follow the hygiene directives and stay indoors, said Nasima.

Globally, more than 2.46 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus and 169,863 have died. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
