Dhaka, Nov 1 (IBNS) Disrupting normal life in the country, the collapse of the national grid left Bangladesh facing a massive blackout on Saturday.

Authorities are attempting to restore the power supply across the nation.

"Attempts to restore power generation across the country, which was disrupted with the national grid failure after the Bangladesh-India power interconnection line at Bheramara had tripped, have almost totally failed," The Daily Star reported.

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid has said the entire process of restoring power in the country will take time.

According to reports, power has been restored in some pockets across the nation.

A committee has been formed to investigate the power failure incident which hit normal life in the Asian nation.

The airport authorities were continuing operation through a powerful generator since noon amid the power disruption,  Rezaul Karim, public relation officer of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh told The Daily Star.

Standby generators are also being used in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
