London, July 10 (IBNS): A mob tried to attack former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was convicted by a Pakistani court in a corruption case last week, as he was entering his son’s residence in Avenfield House on Sunday, media reports said on Tuesday.

A video footage available with Pakistan's Dawn News showed a group of youngsters trying to break into the building and hurling abuses at Sharif.

"One protester threw a shopping cart at a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s UK chapter while another was seen hurling eggs at the door," reported Dawn News.

In another footage, several people could be seen holding Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) flags and demonstrating and chanting slogans outside Avenfield House building.

Police later visited the area but did not arrest anyone as no complaint was lodged by the former PM and his family.

Sharif's daughter and a political figure in Pakistan Maryam Nawaz attacked PTI chief Imran Khan over the attacks.

She was quoted as saying by Dawn News: "The kind of language being used by Imran Khan himself in his campaign as well as this attack are all part of the same process which indicates a lack of training in the leader as well as his followers."

The PTI’s British chapter, however, has distanced itself from the attack.

The incident occurred just days after Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were convicted in the Avenfield Apartments corruption case.

Nawaz Sharif, Maryam convicted:

In a major blow to Nawaz Sharif ahead of the general elections, a Pakistani court on Friday handed over the former PM of the country a 10-year jail term over his family’s purchase of upscale London flats.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court declared the verdict after several delays.

Apart from Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif received a seven-year sentence.

The former PM's son-in-law Safdar Awan was given a one-year sentence by the court.

Apart from the jail term, Nawaz has been handed a fine of eight million pounds.

The court has handed over 2m pounds fine by the court.
