Afghanistan: Four IS militants blown up by own bomb

Kabul, Apr 12 (IBNS): Four suspected Islamic State terrorists were killed when their own bomb blew up in Afghanistan's Chapa Dara district, media reports said on Thursday.

The deceased reportedly included a key IS commander.

Brig. Gen. Mirwais Sapi, a military commander based in the province, told Afghanistan's Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion took place in the Digal village of the district lat on Wednesday.

He told the Afghanistan-based news agency that four Daesh militants, including a commander named Musafar, were killed when one of the landmines they were planting went off prematurely.

Meanwhile, at least eight people, including Ali Shams Dost, the district governor of Khwaja Omari district of eastern Ghazni in Afghanistan, were killed in a Taliban attack, local media reports said on Thursday.

The incident took place early Thursday at around 2 am.

According to Tolo News, the militants attack the Governor's residence, killing the latter along with seven other security personnel.

Additionally, nine other policemen were wounded.

The militants also resorted to arson, setting fire to the Governor's compound.

Confirming the news, an official statement read, "Ali Shams Dost was killed with seven other policemen during the clashes and some parts of the district governor’s compound was also torched.”

It said that in retaliation, 27 Taliban militants were gunned down in airstrikes.

“After the attack the forces called for air support and 27 Taliban were killed during the airstrikes and clashes,” it added.

Reacting to the development, the Taliban reportedly said that it has captured the district, a claim which was rejected by local law enforcers.
