New York, Jul 23 (IBNS): The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on Wednesday condemned the bombing that killed at least 19 civilians and injured at least another 28 in the Almar district of Faryab province.

“This horrific attack against civilians in a market demonstrates an appalling disregard for human life,” said Nicholas Haysom, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.

He said, “UNAMA has repeatedly called for an immediate ban on weapons which kill indiscriminately and that are used in civilian-populated areas.”

According to the media, a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives in a crowded marketplace.

UNAMA extends its condolences to the families of all of those killed in the explosion and wishes a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
