Wellington/UNI: New Zealand has imposed a new batch of sanctions against Russia, targeting 48 individuals and one entity, the country's foreign ministry said on Monday.

In a statement, Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said, "The sanctions build on earlier measures targeting political and military figures in separatist administrations in breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. Today's measures affect 48 officials and one entity."

The names of the sanctioned individuals have not been disclosed yet.

The Ministry noted that New Zealand has so far sanctioned nearly 900 individuals and entities under the act on Russian sanctions, passed in March in retaliation for the special military operation in Ukraine.

New Zealand imposed comprehensive sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, multiple senior officials, businessmen and lawmakers who recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

They were banned from entering the island nation and their bank accounts and assets were frozen.

Russian imports to New Zealand are subject to an additional tariff of 35 percent effective from April 25.
