Bangkok/IBNS: At least 17 people were killed as a Thai soldier shot at them in Thailand's Nakhon Ratchasima city on Saturday, media reports said.

Jakraphanth Thomma, a junior officer, killed his commanding officer before stealing weapons from a military camp, a defence spokesman told BBC Thai.

The suspect then drove to the city centre and entered a shopping complex, where he is believed to be holed up, reported the British website.

The motive behind the attack is still not known.

The suspect reportedly put up images of the attack on the social media.

Authorities have sealed the shopping centre.

The number of injured in the incident is still not known.

Lt Gen Thanya Kriatisarn, commander of the Second Army Region, told Bangkok Post that police and soldiers were hunting the attacker, identified as Sgt Maj Jakrapanth Thomma, 32, of the Surathampithak camp.
