Terror dogs France as policewoman killed :'Jihadi' brothers located
Paris, Jan 8 (IBNS) The two brothers, suspected to be the main culprits in the massacre of 12 people in Wednesday's attack on Charlie Hebbdo, were reportedly located as France continued to be dogged by 24 hours of terror with a gunman killing a woman police officer and explosion and shootings taking place in several areas.
The whole of France was in mourning for three days for the victims of Wednesday's brutal attack as the national flag was at half mast and a crowd of nearly 40,000 people paid floral tributes to the deceased.
Media reports said two men were located by the manager of a gas service station in north of France. Their description matched with that of Cherif Kouachi and his brother Said, suspected to be the main persons behind the Wednesday's attack on the office of a satirical magazine in Paris.
Police, launching a massive manhunt, were narrowing down on the suspects, the reports said.
Earlier in the day, a woman police officer was killed and a city employee seriously injured when a gunman shot at them at Montrouge in the southern suburb of Paris. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who reached the scene, said the attacker was still on run.
Police were yet to establish a link between the incidents of the two consecutive days.
Hours after this incident, an explosion was reported near a kebab shop at Lyon in south-east France. Reports said mosques in two French towns were also fired upon overnight. However, there were no reports of casualty in the incidents.
In the Port-la-Nouvelle district near Narbonne in southern France, several shots were fired after evening prayers. The hall was empty, reports quoted the local prosecutor as saying.
So far seven arrests have been made in the massacre at the office of Charlie Hebdo magazine, while one person surrendered to police.
France witnessed a dark day in its history with unknown gunmen attacking the Paris office of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and killing at least 12 people , including cartoonists and two policemen, as global leaders joined to condemn the incident on Wednesday.
The attack left 10 people injured.
French President Francois Hollande said the incident was “undoubtedly a terrorist attack."
