London, Apr 15 (Xinhua) Thousands of people joined in protests organized by climate group Extinction Rebellion on Monday in London, blocking traffic and disrupting business to demand action over the escalating ecological crisis.
The climate change protesters have blocked roads in London landmarks including Waterloo Bridge, Marble Arch, Parliament Square, Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus.
At Oxford Circus, Extinction Rebellion campaigners parked a boat with the slogan Tell the Truth emblazoned on the side.
While Waterloo Bridge was blocked and turned into an impromptu garden bridge, with people bringing trees, flowers and setting up a miniature skate park.
Local media reported that three men have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after a glass revolving door at oil company Shell's headquarters in Waterloo was smashed.
A police spokesman urged travelers to London to allow extra journey time as road closures and disruptions to the travel network were expected.
Extinction Rebellion said protests would continue throughout the week "escalating the creative disruption across the capital day by day".
The British climate group, which was founded last year, claimed the demonstrations are part of a global campaign with protests planned in 80 cities across 33 countries and regions in the coming days.
