Baghdad, Dec 26 (IBNS): At least two people were killed when a car bomb exploded in an outdoor market in the city of Tal Afar in northwestern Iraq on Tuesday, media reports said.

The wounded were immediately evacuated to local hospitals and Iraqi security forces are investigating the incident,   Iraqi military Brig. Gen. Abdul Jabbar al-Darraji was quoted as saying by CNN.

Militant group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Amaq News Agency said the group was behind the attack on the town of Tal Afar, a former group bastion which Iraq forces had recaptured in August 2017, reported Iraqi News.

A total of 41 Iraqi civilians were killed and another 73 injured in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in Iraq in November 2018, according to casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

The figures include ordinary citizens and others considered civilians at the time of death or injury, such as police in non-combat functions, civil defence, personal security teams, facilities protection police and fire department personnel.
