Melbourne, Jul 8 (IBNS): Police shot two people, a woman and a man, who was wielding a toy gun at a fancy dress swingers party in Melbourne in the wee hours on Saturday, reports said.

The police said that they received multiple reports that a man was carrying a gun at the Inflation night club, where the party was taking place.

The police are now investigating if the gun was indeed fake.

The man and the woman were dressed as The Joker and Harley Quinn from the Hollywood flick Suicide Squad.

They were involved in a public display of affection when police arrived at the nightclub.

The man and woman are known to each other, reports said.

Meanwhile, party goers, who witnessed the incident, said that two innocent people were shot.

Describing the incident, a Facebook user posted, "The event was a fancy dress party and the person who was shot, declared that the gun he had on his person was fake and part of his costume.”

“It was made from plastic.

“This man and an innocent bystander were shot over a plastic gun at an adult fancy dress party,” she posted.

Both the man and the woman have been taken to a hospital, albeit in different facilities.

They are said to have sustained injuries, which amounts to non-life threatening.
