Bengaluru based tech startup CarterX rolls out airport baggage transfer services at doorstep for harried flyers

​Loading heavy suitcases on a baggage trolley and pushing it all the way to the check-in counter, sometimes located far away from the entrance, can make some people exhausted.

Even after deboarding, collecting them from a moving conveyor can at times be challenging for some who are not used to lifting heavy objects.

A tech-based logistics startup CarterX by CarterPorter has taken heed of this problem. Its primary focus is on bringing airport services and solutions to the doorstep of its users through a unique digital platform that enables seamless luggage transfer service that assures its consumers a luxe, baggage-free air travel experience from the first mile to the end destination.

CarterX started its incubation at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport five years ago in 2017 and went to the market in 2018 after completing due process and checks to enable airport sensitivity for the services.

They expanded the services optimally from Bengaluru and added Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi which cater to over 190 million passengers annually.

CarterX offers to pick up luggage from the user’s doorstep and deliver it to the airport or last mile with complete airport assistance.

“So if anyone wants to skip the queues at the airport or simply send their luggage from one city to another, CarterX is the single-stop solution. We are currently operational in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and New Delhi. We are planning to launch to the new cities in the near future,” says CarterX CEO Harsha Vardhan.

The company is currently offering three services to its customers. While the major part of its services revolves around airport baggage transfers, the other two services are intercity and intracity delivery support through Rush Cargo and Rush Local respectively.

While the former focuses more on B2C business, the other two segments are open to both B2B and B2C to some extent, adding that Rush Cargo brings the cargo booking platform to a customer’s convenience with economical pricing and efficient timelines.

How does CarterX’s airport baggage transfer service work?

Explaining the process, Harsha Vardhan said CarterX has tie-ups with multiple airlines for doorstep baggage check-in service where bags are picked up and additionally checked in at the doorstep.

Airport baggage services are available for both local transfers, or bags can be picked up and delivered anywhere in India to the service cities that we operate in, he adds.

“The process is completely in line with existing security checks and the passenger is fully made aware of the same. The security protocols are followed completely and passengers' needs to meet CarterX personnel before entering the terminal of the airport on departure and on arrival before exiting the airport,” says Harsha Vardhan.

"The airport baggage services, the bags and the passenger are on the same flight, we merely assist in the facilitation of bags from/to the doorstep and combine that with complete assistance at the airport."

Asked if there is a limit in terms of baggage weight that can be carried through CarterX, Harsha Vardhan said the service is in accordance with the set government rules.

“The government labour rules regulate that each baggage cannot weigh more than 32 Kgs and that’s the upper limit for each bag that we carry. We take a maximum of 8 bags per booking based on the airport service picked. For non-airport services, each booking can have 1 parcel and can weigh up to 32 Kgs,” says the CarterX CEO.

For baggage weight over and above the baggage allowance permitted by the airlines the customer is travelling in, has to be paid to the airline. In the case of non-airport services, the booked weight will be carried.

What if someone wants their baggage to be delivered at the airport?  CarterX airport baggage services are available for both local transfers or bags can be picked up and delivered anywhere in India to the service cities that we operate.

“The service includes bags picked or delivered by a verified porter to your doorstep and complete airport assistance at check-in counters or baggage belts based on the service opted for,” according to Harsha Vardhan.

For the airport services, the prices are based on the service booked, the number of bags and the distance calculated from location to airport, and is in the range from Rs 670 – 6279 for local to outstation services.

For non-airport services, the prices are based on the service booked (surface, air and air express) and the weight selected. The range is from Rs 111 – 17899 for local to outstation services.
