Huge cache of arms, ammunition recovered in Mizoram

Guwahati, May 8 (IBNS): Security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition, including two assault rifles, from Aizawl, capital city of Mizoram, on May 7, officials said on Sunday.

Army officer arrested on alleged charges of stealing smuggled gold

Aizwal, May 5 (IBNS): A senior army officer and eight of his men from 39 Assam Rifles were arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing smuggled gold bars in Mizoram, media reports said.

Mizoram: Unresolved Challenges

On January 8, 2016, a meeting convened by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) on the issue of repatriation of Brus in six relief camps in Tripura remained inconclusive. "We informed the Home Ministry officials that the Brus refused to return to Mizoram despite repeated arrangements made by Mizoram Government in the relief camps for the repatriation," Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalmalsawma stated. Lalmalsawma also disclosed that the time or venue of the next meeting was not fixed to discuss the issue in future as the Mizoram Government is of the opinion that it would be a futile exercise if more repatriation attempts are made in future.

Mizoram: Unsettled Peace

Nevertheless, the ethnic polarization and tensions provoked by the MNF insurgency continue to trigger occasional violence linked to a range of other armed groups, some of them located in and operating from neighbouring States.

Woman found dead in south Delhi residence

New Delhi, Oct 17 (IBNS): A 24-year-old woman from Mizoram was mysteriously found dead at her residence in Munirka in south Delhi on Thursday night, police said.
