London, Mar 18 (IBNS): Former English batsman Kevin Pietersen has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, ending his glorious career that saw him play some memorable innings across the globe.

" BOOTS UP! Thank you! ," read his small tweet on Mar 16.

In another post, Kevin said: " Just been told that I scored 30000+ runs which included 152 fifty’s & 68 hundreds in my professional career. Time to move on!."

Pietersen said he will now work in saving rhinos.

"Lots asking what I’m going to do next...I’m going to take the same passion & hard work into trying to save rhinos from extinction. If we all help, it’ll be greater than any of our achievements in any walk of life! Let’s do this, team! #SORAI," he said.

Pietersen said in another tweet: "My new career will be trying to stop PIGS like these ruining our world! Let’s all help!."

Ex-captain Michael Vaughn called Pietersen as the 'best batsman' he played in his playing career.

"Well done @KP24 on an fantastic career ... Not everyone’s Cup of Tea but you will do for me ... Best Batsman I had the pleasure to play with ... 1st England batsman that put fear into the Aussies .. #WellDone," Vaughn tweeted.

Another ex-English cricketer Andrew Flintoff posted: "Didn’t know you were still playing congratulations on an amazing career and Thankyou for having a positive impact on mine too , that’s the last time I’m being nice to you ."

Pietersen was recently playing the ongoing Pakistan Super League in the UAE.

He was playing for the Quetta Gladiators in the Twenty20 tournament.

However, Pietersen earlier said he will not be traveling to Pakistan for a play-off after the group stage of the tournament.

England and Wales Cricket Board also thanked him for his contribution for the national side.

"Thank you @KP24!," read the tweet.

Pietersen was not taken into consideration for selection by the England side after February 2014 in the wake of a 5-0 Ashes defeat in Australia. He had been playing in several T20 tournaments across the world since then.
