Paris, Dec 8 (IBNS): Defeating Argentine Lionel Messi, Portugal's star football Cristiano Ronaldo won his fifth Ballon d'Or award on Thursday, media reports said.
With this win, Ronaldo equalised with Messi, who has also won five Ballon d'Or awards.
Messi's former Barcelona-mate, Naymar, who is presently playing for Paris St-Germain, was at the third position.
Ronaldo helped Real Madrid to win Champions League and first La Liga title since 2-12.
This is Ronaldo's second consecutive year when he had won Ballon d'Or award.
After the win, Ronaldo tweeted to say: "Another dream come true. Unbelievable feeling. Thanks to my family, friends, teammates, coaches and everyone that stood by my side throughout the years."
He won the award earlier in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
