New Delhi, May 13 (IBNS): Indian Tennis icon Lenader Paes is all set to skip French Open this year.

Paes has been making headlines for the past few days due to a bitter custody battle with partner Rhea Pillai over daughter Aiyana.

" Leander Paes flew to the US in the early hours of Monday to get his tennis back on track. The doubles ace, in the midst of a bitter custody battle with partner Rhea Pillai over daughter Aiyana, plans to train and work on his fitness with his team in Florida for three weeks before returning to the Tour next month in time for the grasscourt season," The Times of India reported.

" The 14-time Grand Slam champion has been off the Tour for seven weeks as he wanted to spend time with his daughter," it said.

"Aiyana is top priority for him... Also, he didn't have too many points to defend during this phase, so he's skipping the claycourt season," Leander's father Dr Vece Paes was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Paes has not missed the French Open since making his debut in the tournament in 1997.
