Cricket: Indian government allows BCCI to host IPL in UAE

Mumbai/UNI/IBNS: The IPL Governing Council has officially been given go ahead from the Indian government to host the 13th edition of the IPL 2020 from September 19 to November 10 in the United Arab Emirates.

During its meeting here on Sunday, the governing council decided to allow 24 players for each squad.

The timings for the cash-rich league will be 1930 hrs IST instead of usual 2000 hrs IST.

The IPL governing council also decided to retain Vivo as its title sponsor for the upcoming edition of the Twenty20 tournament.  

The tournament is usually held during April-May.

This year, the tournament has been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

VIVO IPL 2020 will be played from 19th September and the final will be played on 10th November 2020.

The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST.

The Governing Council also discussed the comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which will be finalised and published in due course, including the agencies to execute and deliver a bio-secure environment for safe and successful conduct of IPL 2020 Season, read a statement issued by the BCCI.

The Governing Council also reviewed the Player Regulations for replacement player for 2020 season.

Women’s T20 Challenge will also take place in the UAE and will comprise three teams with four matches to be played during the IPL Playoff week.
