New Delhi/IBNS: West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle has come out in open support for his teammate Darren Sammy who has accused some players of an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise of making a 'racist' comment at him.

Sammy took to Instagram on Tuesday to say he has recently learnt the meaning of a word which was used by his mates in Sunrisers Hyderabad to call him.

He wrote on Instagram, "So recently I discovered a word that I was being called was not what it actually meant I need some answers. So before I start calling out names I need these individuals to reach out and please tell me there’s another meaning to that word and when I was being called it,it was all in love." (sic)

Lending support to Sammy, Gayle tweeted, "It’s never too late to fight for the right cause or what you’ve experienced over the years! So much more to your story, @darensammy88. Like I said, it’s in the game!!"

Gayle had earlier said he too was subjected to racist comments.

Sammy and Gayle spoke against racism in the wake of the protests against the killing of an African-American man- named George Floyd- by a white police officer in the United States.
