Kolkata, Mar 14 (IBNS): Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji on Tuesday said stammering was her hichki (hiccup) in childhood days.

Mukerji made the comment while speaking about her upcoming Hindi film Hichki on the sidelines of an award ceremony in Kolkata.

Mukerji said: “My Hichki was that I used to stammer in my childhood days. So I overcame my hiccups and became an actor.”

“So I think we all have hiccups in life -- but the beauty of life is there is no life without hiccup -- and one has to get over it.”

The senior Bollywood actress, who has acted in several films for more than two decades, is returning to films after a break of four years.

In Hichki, Mukerji will be seen playing a role of a teacher who suffers from Tourette syndrome.

Speaking about the film, Mukerji said: “The film is a dedication to all the teachers who have so much knowledge all their life and (teaching is) the most noble profession. “

The actress has also said the film carries a message apart from being just an entertaining package.

She said the message of the film is “to overcome all hiccups and convert them into strengths.”

“Sometimes some films come which not only entertain but educate us as well and also leave a message,” Mukerji added.

Mukerji, who made her debut with Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat in 1997, was last seen in 2014 film Mardaani.

She took a break from films following the birth of her daughter Adira.

The actress, who has a strong connection to Bengal, has urged all people to watch Sidharth P Malhotra directorial film Hichki.

“All teachers, children and parents should go and watch the film” she said.

Mukerji is incidentally the sister of other senior Bolllywood actress Kajol.

Even before acting in one of her most successful Hindi films, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mukerji was featured in a Bengali film Biyer Phool in 1996.

Mukerji’s upcoming Hindi film Hichki is slated to release on March 23.
