Ramesh Sippy's Sholay, released in 1975, had Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in lead roles.

Senior Bollywood actors like Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan (then Jaya Bhaduri) were present in the film.

Actor late Sanjeev Kumar was also in the film playing a significant role of a police officer.

The story revolved around two criminals, Veeru and Jai, played by Bachchan and Dharmendra, who were hired by the police officer acted by Kumar, to confine dacoit Gabbar Singh.

Gabbar's role was played by late Amjad Khan.

Sholay was one of the most successful films of Indian cinema, which ran in several theatre houses for years.
