Mumbai/IBNS: Filmmaker Kiran Rao's much-talked about film Laapataa Ladies has surpassed Sandeep Reddy Vanga's controversial movie Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead, in terms of viewership on Netflix.

As per reports, Laapataa Ladies has garnered 13.8 million views in one month since its OTT release.

Interestingly, Animal, a big budget mainstream film, could reach 13.6 in four months since its digital premiere.

Laapataa Ladies, which had a cold run in the box office, stars Ravi Kishan, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta and Nitanshi Goel in distinct roles.

Animal, which stars Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri alongside Ranbir Kapoor, stirred a controversy over its alleged portrayal of misogyny and violence.

The film was released on big screens on December 1, 2023.

After Kiran referred to misogyny in Animal in an interview, Vanga reacted by referring to her former husband Aamir Khan's film Dil.

Later in an interview with The Quint, Kiran had said, "I haven’t commented on Mr Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s films because I have not seen them. I have often spoken on misogyny and the representation of women on screen, and I have talked about it on various platforms and at various times.

"But I have never taken the name of any film because it is not really about the specific films, it is about the issues. I will continue to speak on these issues. So, why Mr Vanga Reddy has assumed that I am talking about his film, you will have to ask him."
