Anushka, Shahid thanks Kolkata after gala IPL opening

Kolkata, Apr 8 (IBNS): After putting up a sizzling performance on the opening night of the eighth season of the Indian Premier League, Bollywood stars Anushka Sharma and Shahid Kapoor took to Twitter to praise their fans in Kolkata who witnessed the ceremony on Tuesday night here.

Sharma tweeted: "Fab night & What a wonderful crowd you've been Kolkata!!Thank U for d amazing love showered & stickin it out in d rain #IPLOpeningCeremony."

Kapoor said: "Had a blast at the ipl opening ceremony . Kolkata thank you for the overwhelming love."

Amid much glamour and glitterati, the cash rich T20 cricket extravaganza-Indian Premier League-commenced its eighth season on Tuesday at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata where Bollywood stars stole hearts with their super performances.

The ceremony received a jolt as heavy rains in Kolkata disrupted it for a long time.

However, the patient crowd of Kolkata remained in their seats to catch the ceremony till the end.

Kolkatans were entralled as Farhan Akhtar and Band, Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Pritam and Band and Hrithik Roshan, set the stage on fire making the event even more glitzy.

The show was hosted by Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.

Eight teams are participating in the tournament this year.
