Janata Parivar parties merge, choose Mulayam as leader
The parties like Lalu Prasad led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP), Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) of the Chautalas, Janata Dal (U) of Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav, former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's Janata Dal Secular and Samajwadi Janata Party (SJP). came under one umbrella of a party and chose Mulayam Singh Yadav as their president.
Lalu Prasad said: "We decided to choose Netaji [ Mulayam Singh] as our leader today. Our aim is to ward off the BJP. We are one and united. All eyes are on Bihar polls now.
Nitish Kumar said in the meeting today they decided to merge and accepted Mulayam as the chief of the party unanimously.
"We want to emerge as a strong party and show political direction to the nation," he said.
Sharad Yadav announced the formation of a committee of the new party consisting of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Prasad, INLD leader OP Chautala, Sharad Yadav, Kamal Morarka and Ram Gopal to decide on the symbol, name and other paraphernalia.
Mulayam Singh Yadav said they would fulfil the dreams of people and solve the problems of all- be it farmers or youths, accusing the Modi led BJP government of doing nothing new.
