Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud also offered floral respects at the Supreme Court, marking the occasion.

"Jai Bhim!" Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on X and shared a video higlighting Dr. Ambedkar's birth anniversary celebrations and his contributions to the nation.

Paying tributes to BR Ambedkar, Vice President Dhankhar underscored his pivotal role in leading social change towards the creation of a more equal India.

He highlighted Dr Ambedkar's crucial contribution through a constitutional framework that champions the principles of rule of law, civil liberties, gender parity, and the empowerment of marginalised groups.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid respects to BR Ambedkar. In a tweet posted on X, he wrote "Respectful tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution and warrior of social justice, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar ji on his birth anniversary. His courage, his knowledge, and his contribution in strengthening democracy are his legacy that will continue to inspire us in every struggle for the country."

Who was Dr. BR Ambedkar?

Dr. BR Ambedkar, reverently known as Babasaheb, was born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, which is now part of Madhya Pradesh.

He was the 14th and youngest child of Ramji Maloji Sakpal. Coming from a Dalit background and a humble family, Babasaheb experienced firsthand the injustices and prejudices faced by his community.

Despite the challenges, he pursued education and obtained degrees in political science and economics.

His career began with the Baroda State Government, and at the age of 22, he was granted a scholarship to study at Columbia University, where he became the first Indian to pursue a doctorate in Economics abroad.

Throughout his life, Bhimrao Ambedkar advocated for the rights of Dalits. He played a pivotal role in the signing of the Poona Pact in 1932, which allowed for Dalit representation in legislatures.
