As March unfolds its vibrant hues, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) embarks on a mission to ignite agricultural innovation and prosperity across the state. Seven ‘kisan melas’ are slated to grace various corners of Punjab, heralding a new era of agricultural augmentation and holistic rural development.

Themed as ‘Kheti Naal Saahaaik Dhanda, Parivaar Sukhi Munafa Changa,’ these melas aspire to foster a symbiotic relationship between agriculture and subsidiary occupations, promising not just livelihood enhancement but a pathway to a fulfilling lifestyle.

Dr MS Bhullar, the Director of Extension Education at PAU, unveiled the itinerary, signaling the commencement of the agricultural extravaganza. The journey commences from Nag Kalan-Jahangir, Amritsar on March 5, followed by Ballowal Saunkhri on March 7 and Bathinda on March 12. The epicenter of agricultural fervor, PAU’s Ludhiana campus, will host a two-day extravaganza on March 14 and 15, while Faridkot, Gurdaspur, and Patiala will witness the melas on March 18, 20, and 22, respectively.

Describing these melas as veritable encyclopedias of agriculture and family-oriented fairs, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, the esteemed Vice-Chancellor of PAU, extended a warm invitation to farmers from Punjab and neighboring states. He lauded the unwavering dedication of Punjab’s farmers, acknowledging their pivotal role in driving agricultural progress. In return, he emphasized PAU’s steadfast commitment to empowering farmers through technological interventions and timely solutions to agricultural challenges.

“Field demonstrations, stalls, exhibitions, sale of improved variety seeds and farm literature, agro-industrial exhibitions, farm produce and community science competitions, and awards to progressive farmers will be the highlights of these melas,” elaborated Dr Bhullar.

Indeed, these kisan melas promise to be more than just agricultural gatherings; they represent a convergence of tradition and innovation, a celebration of the indomitable spirit of Punjab’s farming community. As the curtains rise on this agricultural extravaganza, all eyes are set on the transformative potential it holds for Punjab’s agrarian landscape and the prosperity of its farming families.
