A criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was injured and arrested in an encounter with the police in the Jahangirabad area of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, a senior police officer said here.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said that acting on specific information, the Jahangirabad police were checking vehicles on Amargarh Road early in the morning when they spotted two people moving on a motorcycle in a suspicious manner.

He said that when signaled to stop, the motorcyclists turned their vehicles and sped towards Amargarh.

"When chased by the police, the miscreants opened fire on the team, and one of them sustained a bullet injury in retaliatory firing and was arrested," he said.

The SSP said that the arrested criminal has been identified as Irshad Sheikhzada, a resident of Moradabad district. "His aide managed to flee from the spot, and combing is being done to arrest him," he said.

He said that the arrested criminal has been admitted to the community health center.

"An illicit firearm along with cartridges were recovered from his possession. Around a dozen cases are lodged against Irshad, and he was wanted in most of the cases," he said.
