Prayagraj/IBNS: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday rejected five petitions filed by the mosque committee challenging suits seeking restoration of temple at the site of Gynavapi mosque, media reports said.

The high court has directed the Varanasi court to complete its hearing within six months.

The high court was hearing the petitions, three from the mosque committee and two from Uttar Pradesh Sunni Centre Waqf board, challenging the maintainability of suits filed before the Varanasi court in 1991, NDTV reported.

"The suit affects two major communities of the country... We direct the trial court to expeditiously decide the suit in 6 months," the court said as quoted by NDTV.

It is claimed that the mosque is a part of the temple on the disputed site.

The suits have demanded the restoration of the temple on the same site.
