15 MPs, including TMC's Derek O’Brien suspended from Parliament

New Delhi: A total of 15 Members of Parliament, including Trinamool Congress’s Derek O’Brien from Rajya Sabha and 14 from Lok Sabha, were suspended due to their "disruptive behaviour" in Parliament.

The suspended Lok Sabha members include Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, VK Sreekandan, Benny Bahanan, K Subramanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan, and Mohammad Jawed.

Derek O'Brien from the Trinamool Congress is the sole MP suspended from the Rajya Sabha.

Out of the 15 suspended MPs, nine belong to the Congress party, two are from the CPM, two from DMK, and one each from the CPI and TMC.

All the suspensions are linked to the Opposition's protests within Parliament over Wednesday's security breach in Lok Sabha. The protests stalled proceedings in both the Houses on Thursday forcing repeated adjournments.

On Thursday, the Lok Sabha passed a resolution to suspend five Congress MPs for the duration of the Winter Session, which is scheduled to conclude on December 22.

The resolution for the suspension of T N Prathapan, Hibi Eden, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose Kuryakus was presented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

In addition to the Lok Sabha suspensions, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien was also suspended from the Rajya Sabha.

His suspension followed after he demanded a discussion on the security lapse that occurred on Wednesday.

During the incident, two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery, causing disruption and releasing yellow smoke from canisters.
