Bengaluru: A 74-year-old retired sub-inspector of the Bengaluru Police was taken into custody on charges of raping a seven-year-old girl, the daughter of his tenant, media reports said.

The victim's mother said her daughter had gone downstairs to retrieve a fallen toy on Monday night at approximately 8:30 pm.

Worried when her daughter didn't come back for a long time, the mother raised an alarm. The girl eventually returned, visibly upset and in tears.

The survivor's father recounted that when he confronted the retired sub-inspector, the accused's son threatened him.

The son, also a cop, allegedly warned the survivor's father, with dire consequences claiming connections with criminals.

Alarmed by this encounter, the survivor's father approached the police and filed a complaint with the police. Subsequently, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and apprehended the accused, charging him under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Both the survivor and the accused are currently undergoing medical examinations.

The accused's son could be also arrested for allegedly threatening the survivor's father and attempting to cover up the crime.

The victim’s family had recently rented a residence on the first floor of the building around eight days prior to the incident.
