Bhatinda (Punjab): The Punjab Police has filed a first information report (FIR) against two unidentified men in the Bhatinda military station firing on Wednesday, media reports said.

According to media reports, the FIR says the two men were wearing white kurta pajamas and covered their faces with masks, and carrying a rifle and an axe.

Investigators suspect an INSAS assault rifle and ammunition that went missing two days ago to be the weapon used in the incident, NDTV reported.

The accused, who are yet to be apprehended, attacked the military base 4:30 am in the morning, killing four soldiers of an artillery unit of the army.

The soldiers, in their mid-twenties, were killed in their sleep.

As per the FIR, the two men were seen running towards a jungle near the base.

The gun and the magazine have been recovered, the army said in a statement this evening. They will be sent for forensic analysis, stated the NDTV report.

The army stated that the number of remaining rounds in the weapon will be determined only after the forensic analysis.

The army is working with the Punjab Police to investigate the incident, but as of now, no one has been arrested or identified in connection with it, according to the army's statement.
