Gurugram: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Surendra Singh Bishnoi was on Tuesday crushed to death by a dumper while investigating illegal mining in the hills of Panchgaon in Gurugram district, police sources said.

The incident took place at around 12 pm about 20 km from Gurugram town, when Bishnoi along with a police team had gone to conduct raids over illegal mining.

When he tried to stop people doing illegal mining, they rammed a dumper into him and crushed him, killing him instantly. The killers fled from the spot.

Illegal mining is rampant on the Aravalli hills in Tavadu area. The administration had constituted a special task force on June 3. Bishnoi was in charge of this force.

Bishnoi, a resident of Sarangpur village of Hisar district, joined Haryana Police on April 12, 1994 as an Assistant Sub-Inspector and was due to retire on October 31.

Following the incident, Haryana ADGP (Law and Order) Sandeep Khirwar told the media that Bishnoi's personal team was with him in the government vehicle.

"Four of our personnel were there. We have a list of suspects, teams are out o nab them," he said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has termed the killing as sad and unfortunate.

Khattar said Rs 1 crore will be given to the family and a government job would be given to one member of the family.

"We'll not spare anyone. Strict action will be taken," said state Home Minister Anil Vij.
