Kolkata, Feb 16 (IBNS) The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal won the Krishnaganj assembly seat in Nadia by a handsome margin while it is leading in the Bongaon Lok Sabha seat as counting proceeded on Monday.

Bypolls were held in both the seats recently.

TMC candidate Satyajit Biswas won in Krishnaganj Assembly Constituency by a margin of 36999 votes. In Bongaon TMC is much ahead of nearest rival BJP too.

"We thank the Election Commission for conducting peaceful elections where voters could express themselves freely. Congratulations to people of Bongaon (LS) & Krishnaganj (AC) for coming and voting in large numbers even for a bypoll where percentage is usually low," said TMC over Twitter.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "We are grateful to Maa, Mati, Manush for again giving us their trust and love with this big win. We will continue to work for them."

"People trust Trinamool. Victory margin of TMC in Krishnaganj has increased since May 2014 Lok Sabha elections," said the party.

TMC was of late cornered over the Saradha chit fund scam probe with several of its leaders facing CBI interrogation and a few landing behind bars.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O Brien tweeted: "Trinamool gracious in victory. Increased margin of victory in both the LS and Assembly by poll. The morning coffee is tasting better.":)
