Kolkata/IBNS: Uber and the West Bengal government's Transport Department have come together to promote road safety in Kolkata.

In a bid to reduce road accidents caused due to faulty vision, Uber has set up a month-long vision correction camp to offer free eye tests and corrective glasses to the city’s commercial drivers. This will include commercial drivers across three-and four-wheelers.

The first such vision correction camp was launched by Transport Minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim along with his colleagues.

Speaking at the launch, Hakim, said, "We continue our commitment to road safety and this initiative by Uber to support the city’s commercial drivers is praiseworthy.

"Such efforts and awareness building for drivers will go a long way in making roads safer for all."

Speaking on the partnership, Shiva Shailendran Sekar, Director - Regional Business Operations & Supply Growth, Uber India & South Asia, said, "Several studies have highlighted the fact that many commercial drivers remain unaware of vision-related issues and pose a safety risk as a result of items. By providing support to commercial drivers, we hope to help make roads safer.”
