Kolkata/IBNS: Actor-turned politician Mithun Chakraborty will visit the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s headquarters in Kolkata Monday, triggering speculation over his reactivation of involvement in the saffron brigade of West Bengal.

Chakraborty is scheduled to visit the BJP's state headquarters, which is located in MG Road, at 5:30 pm.

Before the 2021 assembly elections, the BJP had roped in Chakraborty who joined the saffron camp in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's massive Brigade rally in the heart of Kolkata.

The veteran actor had actively campaigned for the party in the elections, which had voted Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) back to power for the third term with over 200 seats.

Chakraborty, who was involved in the Naxalite movement, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the TMC in 2014.

After failing to stop Banerjee's unbeaten run in power, the BJP, which had won 77 seats in 2021, faced recurrent desertions with depletion of cadre strength in the TMC-ruled state.

In this scenario, Chakraborty's revisit to the BJP headquarters will be closely watched by the political analysts.
