Assam: Rape accused man injured in police firing

Karbi Anglong: A man arrested on charges of raping a minor girl was injured in police firing when he attacked police personnel by using sharp weapon in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

The man identified as Iqbal Hussain.

He was shot by police team at Naharbari area in Karbi Anglong district.

According to police, Iqbal was arrested by police after he allegedly raped a minor girl at Satmile area where locals caught him and handed him over to police.

A police official of Diphu police station said the arrested person was admitted at Diphu Medical College and Hospital on May 28.

“At around 11-40 pm on May 28 we received information that, the arrested person fled from the hospital after he went to toilet of the hospital. We immediately alerted and launched search operations in different areas,” the police official said.

He further said that, yesterday when the police team detected his hideout, he attacked one police personnel by using a dao and tried to flee to jungle area of Naharbari area near Dhansiri.

“One police officer was sustained minor injuries in the attack and we shot at his leg. He was admitted at hospital,” the police officer said.
