New Delhi: A 40-year-old man was arrested Saturday in northwest Delhi's Samaypur Badli area for allegedly raping a six-month-old baby, while his friend, who raped the infant's teenage sister, is absconding, media reports said.

The police identified the arrested man as Raju Malhotra alias Chinu, a resident of Jahangirpuri, and the absconding accused as Raj alias Raju.

The mother of the two girls has lodged a complaint with the police. The complainant told the police that she had two daughters -- a 14-year-old teenager, who is intellectually challenged, and another six-month-old.

Referring to the complaint, police said that both the girls were missing from home as she returned from work on Friday evening.

She then heard screams in the neighbourhood and found Chinu and Raju raping her daughters. Both the accused fled the spot on seeing her, she added.

The children were taken to hospital for examination and thereafter an FIR was lodged and an investigation taken up, police said.

On Saturday, Chinu was found at a park near Samaypur Badli Metro station, police said, adding that he opened fire when the cops asked him to surrender.

A bullet hit him on a leg in a retaliatory firing, after which police managed to catch him, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Brijendra Kumar Yadav said.

Chinu used to be a labourer but was unemployed at the time, he said, adding that both the accused were in an intoxicated state while committing the crime.
