Hyderabad Police NRI thanks Hyderabad Police for nabbing laptop thief on the run
An NRI who returned to India after 15 years has said that he received the best news ever while still in India, from the Hyderabad police when they recovered his expensive Macbook Pro from a man who had absconded with it.
Sourav Roy, a resident of Europe, returned to India in 2021 and got stuck due to the non-availability of flights because of corona travel restrictions.
In May 2021, Roy visited Hyderabad where he met 28 year old Lakhan Asoodani, son of Doulat Ram Asoodani, from Darabjung colony in Madannapet.
Lakhan Asoodani took the NRI’s brand new Macbook Pro worth Rs, 200,000 and ran away with it. Asoodani later refused to return it and disappeared. Whenever the police called him, he would change his locations and create numerous false pretexts and stories while refusing to return the state of the art Macbook.
Roy approached the Madannapet Police Station and the police registered an F.I.R against Asoodani in July 2021. After six months of chasing Asoodani, the police got the better of him and recovered Roy's laptop.
‘This is the best news I have received in India. I have such important and valuable confidential data stored in the laptop that its loss has harmed me tremendously. I just hope he hasn’t tampered with my laptop and the data stored in it. However, I remain deeply grateful to Hyderabad’s Commissioner of Police, Sri. C.V.Anand and the Madannapet police station for taking prompt action and keeping my faith in the police system in India alive,"said Roy.
The legal counsels for the NRI, Jay Devkar, advocate at the Supreme Court of India said that this is a classic example of how effective and public-friendly the policing system in the country should be.
"Such unfailing efforts by the police set a great confidence building measure for NRIs. No one should dare to cheat or mislead anyone, let alone an NRI who is returning to stay in his country after years. The manner in which Hyderabad police have acted in this case should serve as a strong deterrent for all criminals and instill the fear of law in them," said Devkar.
"Even in the West where I live, police are not as friendly as they are here in Hyderabad," said a relieved and delighted Roy.
Hyderabad Police’s DGP M. Mahendar Reddy has been encouraging people-friendly policing initiatives and has gone on record to say that the goal of the police was to be friendly to all and enhance a sense of security among citizens, providing hassle-free living experience for all.
