Mumbai/IBNS: The 23-year-old man arrested yesterday for giving online rape threats to Virat Kohli's daughter is a IIT Hyderabad graduate with a history of online trolling using multiple identities, police said, according to media reports.

Ram Nagesh Srinivas Akubathini was working with a prominent food delivery app in Bengaluru until a month ago. He quit his job to prepare for a master's degree in the US, reported NDTV.

The report said his family and friends were not aware of his activities and they thought him to be was a diligent topper planning higher studies in the US.

After his arrest in Hyderabad on Wednesday, he has been locked in a jail in Mumbai.

Ram Nagesh topped has been a topper in class 10th exam and ranked 2367 in the IIT-JEE or entrance exam.

He mostly kept to himself and interacted mainly online.

His family knew that he was passionate about cricket and India's defeat in back-to-back T20 World Cup matches, first to Pakistan and then New Zealand, had made him upset.

Mumbai Police dources said Ramnagesh followed a "Gappistan Radio" that had written posts against Virat Kohli, which led to a Twitter war between fans and haters, the NDTV report said.

After his late night tweet threatening the Team India skipper's baby daughter, he allegedly deactivated the account and deleted two more accounts in the morning, realising he had made a huge mistake.

But Virat Kohli's manager had already lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell and an FIR (First Information Report) had been registered.

In order to hide his identity, he changed his Twitter handle (@ramanheist) and even pretended to be a Pakistani user @criccrazyygirl.

However, this did not help him as fact-check websites tracked down his his handle.

He also used another Twitter handle, @pellikuturuhere, which means "bride" in Telugu, indicating that it belonged to a Telugu-speaking person.

However, Ramnagesh's family claims that he posted the rape threat "accidentally" and he "must have mistyped after removing his lenses and he immediately deleted the post", his father said, according to the NDTV report.
