Nuclear deal is centerpiece of our relationship: Modi

New Delhi, Jan 25 (IBNS) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with visiting US President Barack Obama by his side on Sunday after their meeting said the civil nuclear deal is the centerpiece of the India-US ties and the two nations are now moving towards commercial cooperation.

"Civil nuclear agreement was the centerpiece of our transformed relationship. In the course of past four months we have worked with a sense of purpose," said Modi.

After their meeting in the Hyderabad House, when they reportedly achieved a breakthrough in the stalled civil nuclear deal, Modi said the two nations are natural global partners and their ties have become more relevant int the digital age.

Modi said he was pleased that six years after the signing of the civil nuclear agreement they are moving towards commercial cooperation.

Modi said defence cooperation is being taken to a new level. 

"The success of this partnership is important for our progress and for peace and stability around the world. We have to convert a good start into lasting progress," said Modi. 

Modi said he saw a renewed energy in the engagement and thanked Obama for setting the tone.

Modi said they would explore cooperation in the area of advanced defence technology and maritime security. 

He said terrorism and free safe havens of terrorist have to be countered with enhanced cooperation on the front. 

Modi said both he and Obama emphasised on pursuing to achieve clean and renewable energy as their goals.

Obama in Hindi said "Mera pyar bhara namaskar" as he in his speech endorsed what the PM said. 

He said he was honoured to be the first American President at the Republic Day parade. 

Obama said India's voice on climate change is important:

US President Barack Obama arrived Sunday with his wife Michelle on a three-day visit to India. In the Hyderabad House in New Delhi he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Crucial talks including one on the stalled nuclear deal was on the top  of the agenda over a working lunch, tea and stroll in the lawns. 

Earlier in the day, Obama was given a Guard of Honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
