New Delhi: The Indian government on Tuesday announced a new category of emergency visa for people from Afghanistan as the situation in the country deteriorated since Taliban captured Kabul on Sunday.

"MHA reviews visa provisions in view of the current situation in Afghanistan. A new category of electronic visa called 'e-Emergency X-Misc Visa' introduced to fast-track visa applications for entry into India," the Home Ministry said in a tweet.

The Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday, after which President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
