New Delhi/IBNS: The monsoon session of Parliament will start in July and the parliamentary committees are likely to commence their functioning from June 16, according to media reports.

An NDTV report said a meeting of the public accounts committee has been called on June 16 and the parliamentary committee of labour affairs will meet on June 23.

According to reports in the media, parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi has expressed hope that the monsoon session of the Parliament will start from its normal schedule in July.

Last year the monsoon session of parliament could be started only in September due to the coronavirus pandemic. Coronavirus scare also forced the government to curtail three sessions and cancel the winter session.

The parliamentary committee meetings were also cancelled due to the pandemic.

Though some legislators demanded online meetings, the presiding officers of both the houses declined it to maintain secrecy of the committee proceedings.

The functioning of the Parliament and its committees are considered possible as the coronavirus restrictions across the country are being relaxed and most of the law makers, their families, staff and the Parliament staff have been vaccinated.

It is also thought that the legislators will not have much difficulty travelling to Delhi to attend the monsoon session, the report said.
