Kolkata/IBNS: Weeks ahead of the West Bengal assembly polls, a youth was killed and six others were seriously injured in a crude bomb blast in Arampur area under Gosaba Police Station limits of South 24 Parganas district on Friday late night, reports said.

Family members of the victims claimed that all of them were BJP supporters and unknown miscreants had hurled crude bombs aiming at them while they were returning home from a wedding reception.

Seven persons were seriously injured in the blast and they were rushed to Canning SD hospital.

Later, they were shifted to a Kolkata hospital after their health conditions deteriorated.

On Saturday morning, one of them, 22-year-old Sovan Debnath, succumbed to his injuries in a Kolkata hospital.

Meanwhile, local TMC leaders alleged that a bomb accidentally went off while those BJP activists were making crude bombs to use during the election.

Local police have initiated a probe into the incident and reportedly seized several crude bombs from the location.

"After examining the prima-facie, we are suspecting that crude bombs were being made at the area when one of those exploded," a police official said.
