Dhaka: In a display of regional brotherhood and mutual respect, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, as well as the Ambassadors of Nepal and Bhutan in Bangladesh came together with senior representatives of the host country to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Saraswati Puja in Dhaka.

Vikram Doraiswamy the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh attended two Saraswati Puja celebrations in Dhaka as the region marked the occasion.

In a ceremony organised by the Officers’ Club in Dhaka the Indian High Commissioner along with the Ambassadors of Nepal and Bhutan paid their respects to the Goddess of knowledge and learning with the Food Minister, Sadhan Chandra Majumder and the Minister of State of Local Governance Rural Development (LGRD) & Cooperatives of Bangladesh, Swapan Bhattacharjee also gracing the occasion.

In Bangladesh, the most decorative and gorgeous celebration of Saraswati Puja is usually arranged on the premises of Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University where a huge number of devotees and crowd throng to perform the religious rituals and visit the pandals circled on the playground of the university’s largest dormitory.

But this year, the department-wise puja arrangement will not be taken place at Jagannath Hall as the university’s dormitories remained closed for a long time in the wake of the pandemic.

Following the ceremony at the Officers’ club, Vikram Doraiswamy also paid his respects at the Puja Pandal that erected at the Bangladesh Parliament where he was joined by Bangladesh’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Mohamad Faridul Haque Khan amongst other dignitaries.

The Prime Minister and President of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hassina and Abdul Hamid also greeted the Hindu population in Bangladesh and wished them the best in separate messages.
