S Jaishankar meets Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, discusses ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation

Colombo: India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday met  Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation on various issues.

In his tweet, S Jaishankar said: "Thank Prime Minister@PresRajapaksa for his warm welcome this evening. Discussed further strengthening our close cooperation in so many areas, following up on the progress made since the Virtual Summit with PM@narendramodi."

Jaishankar was on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka.

During the visit, Jaishankar met Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and other top leaders of the country.

This was the first foreign visit by EAM in 2021, and also the first by a foreign dignitary to Sri Lanka in the New Year.

He visited the nations from Jan 5 to 7.
