Fight me politically, not through NIA, CBI, ED: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar/UNI: Accusing BJP-led centre of terrorizing her family and friends in the name of investigation, former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said that "the saffron party should fight with her politically and not through NIA, CBI and ED."

“I want to tell the people sitting at the helm in New Delhi to fight me politically. BJP is not fighting me politically… BJP has so many ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs) and governments, they should fight me politically. Not through NIA, ED and CBI,” Mufti told reporters during a press conference.

Mufti, who is the Vice President of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), alleged that PDP youth leader Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra was arrested and pressurized by NIA so that she could be linked to terror funding as there were no corruption charges against her.

“Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra was arrested a day after he filed his nomination papers. NIA kept him in its custody for one month… the only purpose to do so was to turn Waheed against me and implicate me in terror cases," said the PDP chief.

"As there were no corruption charges against me, they are trying to associate me with terror cases,” she said.

“He was deprived of sleep and was tortured. Over 200 people interrogated him, and he was assured that if he became a witness against me, he would be freed,” she added.

The PDP president alleged that she has been conveyed many times to think about her future and stop worrying about J&K. However, she said as she didn’t agree on this, the BJP has started to target her family and friends.

“My other family members and colleagues have been targeted. The residences of Anjum Fazil, a former PDP MLA, and a friend of mine were raided in Srinagar as well in Delhi."

"Without any reason, Nayeed Akhtar, Sartaj Madni and Bashir Mir were picked up and kept somewhere… I’m saying picked up because there was no preventive detention order against them. Then rumours were spread that they are being questioned in money laundering cases,” she said.

She further said that the graveyard where her father and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Syed is buried is being audited by the authorities at the behest of the central government.

“A person who trusted them for the greater good of the people… after his death they are auditing his graveyard. According to reports, they are auditing where the money had come from for the tomb of Mr Syed. They are doing this because I don’t have any property,” she said.

Mufti said the loan taken by her brother is also being considered as corruption and crime.

“My sister is a highly qualified doctor and her husband is also a big doctor… they pay taxes in dollars… they had purchased land here and have other property in Kashmir as well as in Delhi. But the government has started to investigate it. Even my mother’s account is being audited,” she said.
