New Delhi/IBNS: Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to lead the war on rape and end the crisis of justice for the women and children of the country amid widespread outrage over the Hathras incident.

“What is happening to our daughters is a matter of national shame. I humbly appeal to Hon’ble PM @narendramodi- the nation looks to you to end this crisis of justice for our women & children. I implore you to lead the war on rape. Our daughters need you and we are all with you,” Kailash Satyarthi tweeted.

Meanwhile, a day after PM Modi sought strict action against the gang-rape culprits, five policemen, including the Superintendent of Police Vikrant Vir, of Hathras district have been suspended in connection with the alleged gangrape case.

An initial report by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the fatal gangrape of the 19-year-old victim by four so-called upper-caste men in Hathras district, called for the cops' suspension over allegations of mismanagement.

The investigators have also asked for a narco-analysis, popularly known as lie-detector tests, of all those involved with the case including the arrested suspects and the family of the victim.

The Yogi Adityanath government has come under attack after the young woman old was dragged by her dupatta, gang-raped by four men, got her spinal cord damaged, and her tongue gashed as her perpetrators tried to strangulate her.

Two weeks after the incident, which occurred on Sept 14, the girl succumbed to her injuries at Safdurjung Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday morning.

Opposition parties have lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for maintaining silence and not doing enough for the "daughter of Uttar Pradesh", the state where his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi is located.

Hitting out at the PM, Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Azad said, "The Prime Minister washes the feet of Dalits but remains quiet when a Dalit daughter of Uttar Pradesh is brutally raped. Neither the Prime Minister can hear her screams nor her family's screams. How long will you stay silent? It is the same Uttar Pradesh that elected him and sent him to Parliament, there is brutality against a daughter un Hathras...her bones broken, her body cremated like garbage."

Azad and opposition parties like Aam Admi Party and CPI (M) joined the protest against the savage assault on the young woman, and the deplorable manner in which her body was cremated and her family confined in their home by the police on the pretext of the ongoing SIT probe.

CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, Aam Admi Party chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal attended the protest and demanded strict action against the accused while amplifying their pitch for the removal of Yogi Adityanath government which has come under fierce criticism for failing to restrain crime against women.
