Absconding mastermind of Assam Police recruitment scam held

Guwahati/UNI: One of the alleged masterminds in Assam Police recruitment examination question paper leak scam, Diban Deka, has been arrested by police from Barpeta district late last night, while two accomplices of another absconding mastermind have been apprehended by the CID.

A police statement informed here on Thursday said that the Crime Branch of Guwahati City Police had received information about the movement of Deka and accordingly, a team was dispatched to lower Assam on Wednesday morning.

At about 23:45 PM, during checking near Pathsala town in Barpeta district, Deka was found travelling with his wife.

He was immediately detained and brought to Guwahati and held in police lock-up here after medical examination.

Deka was produced in the court here on Thursday, which remanded him in five days police custody.

Meanwhile, three accused were arrested by the CID in the same paper leak scam yesterday.

Among those arrested are Dilip Gogoi and Priyanath Gogoi, who are accomplices of the other alleged mastermind of the scam, retired DIG PK Dutta.

Deka and Dutta are the alleged masterminds in the question paper leak scam, with Dutta still absconding.

The CID, Crime Branch of Guwahati Police, and other district police have registered separate cases in the scam and over 20 people, including candidates, have been arrested so far.

The scam pertains to leak of question paper for Assam Police SI recruitment exam that was scheduled on September 20 last.
