COVID-19: Kolkata Police Assistant Commissioner Uday Shankar Banerjee dies

Kolkata/UNI: Kolkata Police Assistant Commissioner Uday Shankar Banerjee died of Covid-19 in a city hospital early today.

He was one of the most senior officers among nine police personnel, who have succumbed to the dreaded pandemic in the city so far.

" Extremely saddened to share the news of untimely demise of an outstanding Officer ACP (Central Div) UdayShankar Banerjee, who was under treatment in hospital due to COVID-19. Team KP ( Kolkata Police) stands by the family of the deceased Officer Sad Corona

Martyr," Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma said.

Earlier Kolkata Police in its twitter post said, " We deeply mourn the untimely demise of Assistant Commissioner Uday Shankar Banerjee, who was posted in the Central Division. He was affected with COVID19 and was at the forefront of our Fight Against Corona. Salute Brave heart RIP. "

The ACP died around 03 05 hours at Desun where he was admitted on August 17 and kept on ventilation support the following day.

He had been feeling unwell since August 11 and was diagnosed with Coronavirus on August 14.

Before being shifted to Desun, he was at Vishuddhananda hospital in the city.

The deceased's wife was also admitted with Covid-19 in the city hospital.

Earlier in the rank of Inspector Abhigyan Mukherjee and ASI and Police Constables died due to the pandemic in past three months.

The city police personnel are the frontline warriors.
