40 kg ganja seized from New Delhi bound train in Assam’s Karimganj district

Guwahati/IBNS: The Railway Protection Force seized 40 kg ganja worth Rs 2.40 lakh from a New Delhi bound train at Badarpur railway station in Assam’s Karimganj district.

According to the reports, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, Lumding received information from the SRP, Agartala about the possibility of drugs, contrabands being transported by the 02501 Agartala - New Delhi AC Special Express train.

From Lumding the intelligence was immediately shared with concerned RPF officials at Badarpur.

The RPF officials of Badarpur immediately launched a search operation when the train arrived Badarpur station at about 09-58 pm on July 27 and  while conducting intense search, RPF team detected one blue colour trolley bag and one small shoulder bag suspected to be containing contraband items lying under berth no 64 of coach No -7.

But found no passenger sitting near berth no 63 or 64 of the coach and so the bags were off-loaded as unclaimed by RPF, Badarpur.

Later the bags were weighed and found to contain about 40 kg of ganja worth about Rs 2, 40,000.

GRP, Badarpur were intimated about the seizure by RPF.

Earlier on the same day local police of Agartala apprehended one person named Bapi Sarkar from platform number1 of Agartala station with the possession of one red trolley bag at about 04-40 pm before scheduled departure of the 02501 Agartala - New Delhi AC Special Express train.

The trolley bag was found to containing about 23 kg of ganja when checked.

A case was also registered by GRP/Agartala vide no 3/2020 under various provisions of NDPS Act.
