Nagaland registers its first COVID-19 case, three Chennai returnees test positive

Guwahati/IBNS: After Sikkim, Nagaland on Monday registered its first COVID-19 positive case as three people who returned to the state from Chennai tested positive for the new virus. 

Out of the three patients, two are from Dimapur and one from Kohima.

Confirming the report, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that, two persons in Dimapur and one from Kohima have been tested for the contagion on Monday.

He tweeted: “Unfortunately, 2 persons in Dimapur and 1 in Kohima have been tested positive for #COVID__19. Please do not panic. We need to handle it with utmost care and responsibility. Necessary action of contact tracing & containment measures are being taken and situation closely monitored.”

According to the reports, the patients were part of the first special train came from Chennai to Nagaland.

The special train was arranged by the Nagaland government to evacuate the stranded students in Tamil Nadu and the train was reached at Dimapur railway station on Friday evening.

The Nagaland Health department had collected samples of the returnees and the samples were tested at the BSL-3 in Kohima and the results came out of Monday morning.

Two COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment at District Hospital Dimapur, the third is at Chedema COVID-19 Hospital in Kohima.

Earlier, a person hailing from Dimapur was tested positive for COVID-19 at Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
